PRISONER OF THE PAST
Once a talented surgeon, now a pathologist, Vira is a “professional” elder sister. It is to her, and not to their loving, but overly domineering, mother, Alla, that her weak-willed sister, Katya, and the kind, but too much spoiled by the mother, Ivan, come for help.
Having devoted all her life to work and family, Vira has long given up dreams of happy personal life. Though, there’s a cause for this. She doesn’t trust men. In the past, in front of little Vira, her father left pregnant Alla for some kind of empty-headed blonde. Besides, Vira herself has a sad experience in relationships with men. Her first love, funny and easygoing Vasyl, left her without explanation to marry another woman.
But time heals. And so, after many years, another man comes into Vira’s life – Fedir, her colleague and best friend who works as police detective. Handsome, polite and intelligent, he is the exact opposite of the hooligan Vasyl. And Vira can’t help falling in love with him. Being sure that her feelings are mutual, she’s going to tell him of her love, but she’s late. Once day, Fedir happily announces he’s going to marry another woman and invites Vira to his wedding.
To avoid this, the frustrated Vira takes a vacation and returns to her hometown – to their family hotel. There she hopes to hide from all adversities of life. However, she fails as suddenly she finds out that her younger brother, Ivan, is involved in some criminal story. The girl whom he met at the nightclub and brought to their hotel, is found dead in the morning. Ivan himself doesn’t remember what happened that night. What’s even worse – trying to help her beloved son escape prison, Alla without hesitation got rid of the corpse. She was assisted by Vasya, whom Alla never liked much.
As a result, law-abiding Vira finds herself between two fires: either to report her family to the police or to cover up the people she loves and find the murderer herself. The situation heats even more when the investigation is entrusted to Fedir, from whom Vira never had any secrets.
But the worst thing is that the deeper Vira digs, the more strange, unpleasant and frightening things begin to happen in her family. She understands that someone is behind these troubles. Someone evil and vengeful is seeking at all costs to destroy Alla’s family and make her pay for the dark past of which Vira doesn’t not.
